Stevie Wonder-3-819x1024Stevie Wonder, who had quit MoTown in 1970 to record two albums for himself, was stunned to learn of this. Berry Gordy was shocked when Stevie Wonder told him this. Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's demand for more freedom and control of his creativity over his entire catalog of songs. Stevie Wonder signed a 13 million dollar MoTown Records contract in 1972. The contract entitled Stevie Wonder to a higher royalty and greater creative control and the rights to his own music, which few artists had gotten in the previous years. The songs of Stevie Wonder could now address controversial issues such as poverty, war and drugs. The first album Wonder made available under the new arrangement with MoTown was, Music Of My Mind in 1972. In the latter part of 1972, Stevie Wonder released an album that is still regarded as a historic piece in music,Talking Book. This album featured Superstition, the number-one hit song.
